Pink for Boys, Blue for Girls

Ladies' Home Journal article in June 1918 said,

"The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger colour, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." 

Marketing in the 50's and then again in the 80's popularized the idea that women should wear pink. Take a look at this video on how pink became for girls. 

This is the conversation we have been having lately over on social media. Many of us modern moms get their baby girls mistaken for boys if they are not wearing a bow or pink. There are so many nice neutrals that are unisex that we can dress our children in that we don't have to be stuck with the gender stereotypical clothing.

Many moms that are shopping the toy aisle get assaulted with either a sea of pink dolls and kitchen gear or blue and green science and building equipment. This is such archaic thinking! I mean, my favourite chef is a man and my favourite architect is a women. We need gender neutral toys as well.
